Circa Early 1900s Chicago West End Grounds Game-Action Photograph
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;">Addendum (2/14 - 10:42 am). The handwritten identification on the reveres of this photo is incorrect This appears to be Chicago's West End Grounds. The opposing team and exact year are unknown. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Vintage mounted photo capturing game action at what appears to be Chicago's West End Grounds during the early 1900s. Taken from the perspective of the upper grandstand, just to the left of home plate, the photo captures nearly the entire field, including the overflow crowd along the entire outfield bleachers. In this moment of time, one club has the bases loaded and the batter has just hit a ground ball to the shortstop who is bending down to field it. One of the more interesting elements seen here is the uncovered third-base dugout, including the array of bats lined up in front of it. The reverse features numerous Brown Brothers credit stamps, as well as a number of editorial notations, including “Phila vs. Detroit – Shibe Park – Phila 1907 (the identification is incorrect). The photo (9.5x5.25”) displays a small edge tear along the top border and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. It has been affixed to a thick cardboard mount of equal dimensions. Though this is clearly a vintage photo, because it has been mounted, PSA will not accept it for evaluation, therefore, no guarantee can be made regarding a specific Type designation.
