Civil War Collection. A Sword in Sheath, One Optical Bullet With Photo of Objective, Bullet and Letter in Original Envelope

Civil War Collection. A Sword in Sheath, One Optical Bullet With Photo of Objective, Bullet and Letter in Original Envelope

This is an incredible collection of Civil War items! The sword measures 41” point to pommel and comes with the original sheath complete with leather straps and metal clip for mounting on a belt. At the base of the blade is an inscription that reads “U.S. GGS. 1862” and on the reverse side is a stamp from the manufacturer that reads “Mansfield & Lamb Forestdale R.I.” With the sword comes a standard bullet and a very special optical bullet. The optical is a bullet that has a small hole through its length with a glass bead inside that shows a photo of a military objective. When you look through the point of this bullet you can see a picture of what appears to be a house with writing beneath it. The writing is difficult to read but “Headquarters” appears clearly. In the event of capture these bullets could be dropped and, hopefully, go unnoticed by the enemy. Also in this lot is a letter dated February 10, 1863 in the original envelope with “Feb 10 1869 Brook Station VA” written on it in pencil. In addition there is a postal cancellation and and cancelled three cent stamp on the envelope. This is an extremely interesting lot from America’s history.
