Civil War Era Sword and Pistol (Circa. 1851)

Civil War Era Sword and Pistol (Circa. 1851)

This pairing of sword and pistol is a unique piece of U.S. Military history. The 1851 Colt pistol and the beautiful crafted sword are most likely a pair of weapons carried by an officer. Swords were only used by officers and are best known as those raised by generals at the beginning of battle as he sounded the order to charge. The sword measures 37" with a 32" blade and is intricately carved on both the blade and the handle making for a truly remarkably crafted weapon. The Colt revolver is 14" and is of a simpler construction without the ornate carving that some of these models bore. This pistol was obviously used as a weapon and not as a showpiece. Both pieces are in VG/EX condition with only minor scratches and wear commensurate with military weapons from that era.
