Collection Of 1896 Baltimore Baseball Programs (7)
From the Baltimore Orioles' Temple Cup Championship season of 1896 come these spectacular programs that are all scored in pencil and profile a different player on the center cover, including two with Steve Brodie, vs. Pittsburg and Boston (the latter having grease pencil marks on the cover). Other highlighted players include the team's best player, Hughie Jennings, who batted .401, drove in 121 runs and was hit by pitches a remarkable 51 times that season. His program comes from a game vs. Philadelphia. Also included are Bioleryard Clark vs. Cleveland, Jack Doyle vs. St. Louis and George Hemming vs. St. Louis, with his cover showing some pencil markings. There is some creasing, and other than those with markings, the average condition is Very Good. They present as some of the most visually striking of all baseball programs. The 1896 Orioles, who played in the National League and have no affiliation whatsoever with the Orioles franchise that plays today, compiled a dominant 90-39 record with three ties, capturing the pennant by 9.5 games.
