Collection of Full 1892 Boxing Tickets Including Sullivan vs. Corbett (3)

Collection of Full 1892 Boxing Tickets Including Sullivan vs. Corbett (3)

Incredible trio of complete boxing tickets from the 19th Century boxing extravaganza better known as The Carnival of Champions. The three day event, hosted by The Olympic Club in New Orleans, saw on September 5, 1892, lightweight champion Jack MacAuliffe retain his title with a fifth-round knockout of Billy Myer and, on September 6, featherweight champion George Dixon knock out Jack Skelly in eight rounds to maintain his crown. On the final day, John L. Sullivan faced challenger James Corbett, in what would be the first heavyweight title fight in history during which the participants wore gloves. For the better part of 21 rounds, Handsome Jim would outmaneuver and combo the bullying champion until finally, exhausted and pummeled, the greatest bare knuckler of all-time, fell to the mat for the count. The handsomely printed set of varying sizes includes one ticket from each of the matches (Sullivan/Corbett-3.25"x4.25", Myer/McAuliffe-2.5"x5", Dixon/Skelly-2.5"x4.5") and boasts bold graphics and text that are surrounded by edges and corners that display only light wear, overall EX. Includes press clipping from the event.
