Collection of Vintage Japanese Baseball Cards Including 6 Victor Starfin Cards (30)
Thirty beautifully colored Japanese baseball cards in all different shapes and sizes. Included are (5) 1949 Kagome Diecut Menko (JDM 4) including Tokuji Iida (HOF), and Fumio Fujimura (HOF), Nakatani, Sugiyama, and Chiba. (2) color bromide cards, and (1) black and white bromide of Starfin. (14) 1947 Blue Border Menko Disks (all blank back). Some of the players included are Tsubouchi, Tsuji, Chiba, and Karita. (4) 1949 Kagome Seals Visit including Victor Starfin, (2) Igaue, and Nishizawa. The disks measure 1-7/8" in diameter. There are a total of (6) cards of Victor Starfin a Russian who played in Japan. He was the first gaijin (translates as "foreign barbarian") elected to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame. He was the Giants' best pitcher during the late-1930s and even participated in the Giants' U.S. tour. In his best season, Starfin won 42 games (a Japan record) with an ERA of 1.73 in 458 1/3 innings. During his career, he won a MVP award, led the league in wins three times, in strikeouts once, and in ERA twice. He ranks sixth on the all-time leader list in wins with 303 and fifth in lifetime ERA with 2.09. The condition breakdown of the lot is 20% VG-EX, 60% VG, and 20% lesser.
