Cool Papa Bell Handwritten Letter

Cool Papa Bell Handwritten Letter

A rare and unique handwritten letter by Negro Leaguer and Hall of Famer, “Cool Papa” Bell. This is a marvelous acquisition for any baseball fan. Written completely in Bell’s hand, the ink, bold and dark, is in Mint condition. Addressed to Steve Goldstein, the content is fabulous, pertaining to pictures of himself, which he gave to a known NY sports announcer (named in the letter) under the impression that they were to be used for a book. Bell never heard from the man, and never received his photos, despite writing several times. The Better Business Bureau also did not have any luck in retrieving the photos. Expressed in the letter, Bell needed the photos to submit to Cooperstown after his induction into the Hall of Fame and he “[did] not have money to get a lawyer to get [his] pictures back”. He closes the letter with “Peace and happiness to you and family Sincerely, James “Cool Papa” Bell. Written on official “James (Cool Papa) Bell Baseball League” letterhead. Dated 5-19-1977. Paper contains a great photo of Bell in the upper left corner. Original mailing folds, o/w Mint. Comes with original mailing envelope.
