Curtis Cokes was born on June 15, 1937 in Dallas. He won the World Welterweight Title on August 24, 1966 in a bout with Manuel Gonzalez. He retired after defeating Ezra Mzinyane on October 5, 1972 with a final record of 62-14-3 with 30 KO's and one no-contest. He in now one of the elite boxing trainers.
