Cy Young Twice-Signed Sheet w/Related Items (PSA)

Unlined sheet signed twice by legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young. This sheet is part of a much larger signature collection compiled by our consignor's father in the late 1940s ("The New England Autograph Collection"). All the items from the collection are featured in thirty-one separate lots in this auction, including many prominent Hall of Famer autographs. Of all the many players our consignor's father corresponded with at the time, Young appears to have been the most obliging signer. As a result, his signature is featured several times in the collection.

This piece shows the method in which our consignor's father obtained his vast collection. Both of Young's blue-ink signatures (grading 6/10 overall) have been scripted on the reverse of a typed letter from our consignor's father to Young in 1947. In his letter, he respectfully requests Young's autograph and makes note that a self addressed stamped envelop has been included for he return of the autograph. As we can see here, Young was especially accommodating as he not only signed the back of the letter twice, he also sent back the referenced index card (offered in a separate lot). Additionally, he also sent (under separate cover) a real-photo postcard commemorating Young's 80th birthday on March 29, 1947 (included here; 3.5x5.5": EX). The sheet (5.5x8.5") displays two horizontal mailing folds and is in Excellent condition. Together with the original return envelope (6.5x3.5"; EX) and a second envelope (5.75x3.5": VG-EX) which housed the real-photo postcard.
