D304 Brunners Butter Krust Ty Cobb PSA VG-EX 4

D304 Brunners Butter Krust Ty Cobb PSA VG-EX 4

The D304 card of Ty Cobb is, without a doubt, one of the highlights out of any of the issues produced in it's era and this example doesn't disappoint. The story of survival for this extraordinary card (along with the D304 Evers and E93 cards in this catalog) begins many decades ago. These cards were given to a child collector from the Buffalo, NY area many years ago by an elder family friend that thought the younger collector would appreciate them more than he did at the time. As years turned into decades and members of the young collector's family began moving out of their parents' home and into various homes of their own, miraculously, these cards were tucked away and forgotten but suprisingly were not discarded. Somehow these cards survived a century of indifference and several address changes before finally grabbing the attention of someone in the family. These cards are making their hobby debut on the pages of our catalog after 100 years of seclusion and we couldn't be happier to introduce you to these cardboard recluses. This extraordinary Ty Cobb card is outstanding in almost every respect, exception being the grade. Two very faint surface wrinkles (factory?) are present on the card's front; you really do need special lighting an eagle eye to catch a glimpse of them. Should this be cause for a grade of VG-EX? Does it really matter? The truth is that this card is a stellar example by anyone's definition and exudes a "fresh", relatively untouched appearance. In fact, every aspect of this card's appearance transcends the grade it was saddled with. Centering that is biased slightly to the bottom and to the right is just about the only thing that one might notice as an area of improvement for this card. The colors are bold with tremendous focus. All four corners appear sharp at first glance only under close inspection do you see a hint of faint touches on three of them. The reverse of the card bears bold, uninterrupted print on a "like new" and stain free surface. Visually this card is minimally EX-MT or even Near Mint but technically...... I still can't agree with the grade.
