Definitive 1854 Frederick Douglass "Men are Equal" Signed Quotation

Definitive 1854 Frederick Douglass "Men are Equal" Signed Quotation

One of the foremost leaders of the abolitionist movement, Frederick Douglass provided a powerful voice for human rights during the 19th century. Offered is a pair of Douglas autographs, one being a remarkable signed quotation penned by the Civil Rights champion in 1854, a full six years before the start of the Civil War. The quote resides on a 4 x 3.5" section of paper, where Douglass has scripted the words, "All men are Brothers, and freedom is the common might of all. With God all men are equal, and are equally the objects of his paternal care. Frederick Douglass 1854". The importance of this piece cannot be overstated, as it is difficult to imagine a quote which better embodies the spirit of Frederick Douglass and all for which he fought. The second autograph is a beautiful black ink signature penned on a 5.25 x 3" section of paper and dated "May 19, 1876". Both pieces are affixed to a larger sheet of heavy stock paper, at the top of which someone has pasted a brief biography of Douglass. The signed quotation shows two small sections of paper loss at the edges, but otherwise reamains in EX-MT condition. The second signature is exceptionally clean and rates Near Mint (NM). The ink on each piece is bold and rates 9-10/10 in strength.
