Don Miller Signed Four Horsemen Oversized Photo

Don Miller Signed Four Horsemen Oversized Photo

It was 77 years ago that a dramatic nickname coined by a poetic sportswriter and the quick-thinking actions of a clever student publicity aide transformed the Notre Dame backfield of Stuhldreher, Crowley, Miller and Layden into the most fabled quartet in college football history. Quarterback Harry Stuhldreher, left halfback Jim Crowley, right halfback Don Miller and fullback Elmer Layden had run rampant through Irish opponents' defenses since Coach Knute Rockne devised the lineup in 1922 during their sophomore season. Don Miller boldly inscribed and signed this vintage oversized photograph of the four horseman: "Best Regards to my Good Friend 'Mike'/ Don Miller." Fellow Notre dame football player Harvey Brown has also signed this haunting, original sepia tone image that measures 13 1/2" x 16 1/2 ". The overall condition of the image is EX with minimal creasing, nice clean edges and good tonal contrast for a vintage photograph from the 1920's. Don Miller is considered to be the toughest signature of the Four Horseman to obtain which makes this a unique and special lot.
