Duke Cigarettes Advertising Sign

Duke Cigarettes Advertising Sign

This 19th century paper advertising poster has metal strips at the top and bottom for hanging. By 1890, the Duke family - which later founded Duke University in North Carolina - supplied 40% of the American cigarette market. Here's one of the company's classic signs, likely from the 1890s. It measures roughly 9" x 21" but the frame is 15" x 27." The ad is in good condition, thanks in part to some professional restoration.
