Earl Seibert’s 1939 Babe Siebert Memorial All Star Game Sweater and Leggings

Earl Seibert’s 1939 Babe Siebert Memorial All Star Game Sweater and Leggings

1939 All-Star sweater and leggings (socks) worn by Hockey Hall of Famer Earl Seibert in the NHL's Babe Siebert Memorial Game, held at the Montreal Forum on October 29, 1939. Babe Siebert had retired after the 1939 NHL season and was immediately appointed as the Coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Tragedy struck when he was drowned prior to the start of the 1939-40 season. The Babe Siebert Memorial Game was organized to benefit his wife, who was paralyzed from the waist down, and his two young daughters. The game featured a group of NHL All-Stars, including Earl Seibert, playing against the Montreal Canadiens. Earl Seibert, a standout player for the Chicago Blackhawks and one of the NHL's best defensemen of his era, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1963. The wool sweater has the McNiece's Sports manufacturers tag on the inside bottom left. On the front of the sweater is a black felt five-pointed star that is painted yellow so that ""N.H.L. ALL STARS 1939" stands out in the original black felt. On the back of the jersey is the player number "8" in black felt. The white, black and orange jersey is in good overall condition with many small holes on both front and back due possibly to poor storage. There are no tags on the orange, navy and white woolen stirrup leggings. The leggings are in good overall condition with team repairs on both legs and soiling on the stirrups.
