Early 1900s Charles Ebbets Cabinet Card Photograph

Early 1900s Charles Ebbets Cabinet Card Photograph

Rare vintage cabinet card of Charles Hercules Ebbets, long time team president and part owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers from the late 1800s until his passing in 1925. Crisp image version measures roughly 4x5.5", with card backing extending the piece to 4.5x6.5". As this was used for publication, it displays some cropping paint on the borders, verso has subject's name in pencil, editor's markings, and both stamp and label from Brown Brothers, as this is from their legendary photo archive. Impression in bottom right corner indicates that this was done by Carbonette Photographers of Brooklyn, NY. Not only was the Dodgers' legendary Brooklyn ballpark named for Ebbets, but he actually sold half of his earnings in what was then known as the "Superbas" in order to raise the money for the building of the actual park. While we are unable to exactly date this image, Ebbets' youthful visage most likely narrows this to sometime in the 1890s.
