Early 1900s Polytechnic Football Felt Display w/Player Resembling Jim Thorpe
Rare and colorful felt textile featuring an image of an early 1900s football player, above which is lettered the school name: "Polytechnic." What makes this piece especially appealing is that while the player is clearly generic in nature, he does bear a resemblance to Jim Thorpe. The player is dressed in a classic union-suit football uniform and holds a "melon" style football from the period. Based upon the size of this piece, which measures an impressive 24x25" (including the tasseled fringe), we can assume that it was most likely produced as a pillow case. The piece, which is mounted to its backing, retains all its vibrant colors and is in apparent Near Mint condition. Framed to total dimensions of 33.5x33.5".
