Early 1900s Spalding Buckskin Child's Catchers Mitt

Early 1900s Spalding Buckskin Child's Catchers Mitt

Presented is an early 1900s Spalding manufactured buckskin child's catcher's mitt. Spalding was a pitcher in the Major Leagues with the Boston Red Stockings of the National Association (1871-75) and the Chicago White Stockings of the National League (1876-77). Spalding became a pitcher/manager while with the White Stockings. He was an outstanding pitcher, having a lifetime record of 251-65, with a career ERA of 2.13. While still a playing/manager in '76, Spalding opened his sports manufacturing business. In the beginning he produced baseballs for the Major Leagues, and then his company added football, golf, and tennis equipment. The Spalding Company still produces the baseballs used in the Major Leagues. The offered child's catcher's mitt is 8" from top to bottom and approx. 8.5" at its widest. There is a Spalding Manufacturer's tag on the thumb. The palm and the back of the mitt are buckskin. The glove shows use, and it is in nice condition, with a missing wrist strap and misses laces for the web. The glove makes a charming, vintage collectible.
