Early 1960s Juan Marichal San Francisco Giants Rookie Era Game Worn Glove (Teammate Sourced)

Early 1960s Juan Marichal San Francisco Giants Rookie Era Game Worn Glove (Teammate Sourced)

Juan Marichal was the first Dominican player and the first foreign born pitcher ever selected to the Hall of Fame. Displayed is his game worn glove from the early 1960s. The right-hander with the sky-high leg kick had a lifetime record of 243-142 in 16 years in the Major Leagues, his first 14 seasons (1960-1973) with the San Francisco Giants. The 10-time All-Star led the National League twice in each of these categories: wins, innings, complete games, and shutouts. He pitched four shutout innings in the Giants' losing effort against the New York Yankees in the 1962 World Series. "The Dominican Dandy" won the NL ERA title in 1969. Marichal pitched a no-hitter on July 15, 1963, and four years later he was involved in one of the most violent confrontations in Major League history. In a game between the Giants and their rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers on Aug. 22, 1965, with Marichal at bat as tempers rose, Dodgers catcher John Roseboro threw the ball back to the mound and the ball whistled just past Marichal's ear. Juan used his bat to attack Roseboro, hitting him on the head. Marichal received a league suspension and the biggest fine ever (at that time) for an on-field incident. Later, Roseboro and Marichal became friendly and Roseboro's support helped to elect Marichal to the Hall of Fame in 1983. The Wilson A2000 glove has Marichal's number "27" handwritten on the outside pinkie finger slot, in black marker. The glove comes from a relative of Bob Farley, a first baseman and outfielder who played on the Giants in 1961. In the pocket is stamped "Pro Model" and just below the pocket is stamped "Snap Action." The glove shows great wear, with worn spots on the leather, a few loose threads, and a heavy crease in the pocket. The Wilson manufacturer's tag on the back of the wrist strap is missing. Overall, the glove is in Very Good condition, and the Hall of Famer's game used glove adds value to any collection.
