Early 1970s Al Oliver Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Jersey

Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by star outfielder Al Oliver during the early 1970s. The white knit pullover jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "16" on the front and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold tackle twill. The Rawlings tag that was once affixed on the lower left tail has been removed, but the stitch outline remains. The jersey, which measures "42," is tapered and the tails have been hemmed. Heavy use is displayed throughout, including fraying and small tears to the reverse numerals, and a dirt stain on the reverse from sliding. This style jersey was worn by the Pirates from 1970 to 1976, during which time Al Oliver was the only Pirates player to wear number "16." A seven-time All-Star, Al Oliver was one of the top hitters in the game during the 1970s and early 1980s. Oliver batted over .300 eleven times during his eighteen-year career, including a league-leading and career high .331 in 1982. He finished his career with 219 home runs 1,326 RBI, and a lifetime .303 average.
