Early 1970s Mike Wagner Pittsburgh Steelers Game Worn Helmet
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;margin-bottom:12.0pt;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px;"><span style="color: black;">Pittsburgh Steelers football helmet worn by safety Mike Wagnerduring the early 1970s. The black Riddell helmet features the Steelers logo onthe right side and a single gold stripe running down the center. Wagner'sjersey number, "23" is affixed in white numerals to both the front and rear ofthe helmet. Wagner's name, height and weight, college affiliation, and proaffiliation (Mike Wagner 6' 1" 210# Western Illinois </span><span style="text-decoration: underline; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; word-spacing: 0px;">Pitts</span><span style="font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-thickness: initial; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; float: none; word-spacing: 0px;">) are written in faded blue ink on the interior rubberpadding hanging in the center of the suspension straps. The helmet is completewith all its interior padding and original chin strap. The mounting bracketsfor the facemask are broken, but remnants remain attached to each of the fourexterior screws. The original facemask accompanies the helmet (not attached). </span>MikeWagner’s 10-year career with the Steelers (1971-1980) coincided with one ofthe greatest decades in franchise history. A two-time Pro Bowl selection and a FirstTeam All Pro in 1973, Wagner was a key member of the club’s vaunted “SteelCurtain” defense that helped lead the club to four Super Bowl victories betweenthe years 1974 and 1979. Wagner retired after the 1980 season with 36career interceptions, plus one each in Super Bowls IX and X. Wager is currentlyone of 45 inductees into the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Honor.
