<p>Great Britain was famous for producing tobacco sets from virtually every walk of life starting in the late 1800’s. Here we have several of these sets, covering Motorcycles, Arms & Armour, Sports Records and a set of early 20th century pop culture. Set details:</p><p>1) 1923 Lambert & Butler's Cigarettes - Motorcycle Set. This complete set of 50 British Tobacco Cards includes the iconic Harley-Davidson, B.S.A., Triumph, Indian Super-Chief among many other classics of its day. Cards grade 6 EX or better, 38 VG to VG-EX, and 6 lesser.</p><p>2) 1909 John Player & Sons Cigarettes - Arms & Armour set. This is a complete set of 50 cigarette cards issued by the John Player Tobacco Co. in 1909 on the subject of Arms & Armour. Some of the images include: A Saxon in Armour, A Knight, An English Archer, An English Gentleman, An Officer of Infantry, A Grenadier, A Pistoller, A Tournament, A Crossbowman, and A Foot Soldier at a Seige. A descriptive text is printed on the back of each card. Cards grade 15 EX+ or better, 28 VG to EX, and 7 lesser.</p><p>3) 1925 Alexander Boguslavsky Ltd. Turf Cigarettes – partial set. This is a partial set of cards 26 thru 50 (actually the complete 2nd series), the complete set having been issued in 2 series for a total of 50 cards. This partial set includes the likes of Georges Carpentier (famous French boxer) and American baseball star George Sisler for his batting average of .420, as well as golf, tennis, football (soccer), rugby, billiards, and wrestling stars. Cards grade 5 EX+ or better, 17 VG to EX, and 3 lesser.</p><p>4) 1936 Stephen Mitchell & Son “A Gallery of 1935” complete set. A great 50-card set, covering British pop culture at the time and including figures from the worlds of royalty, politics, and especially sport; plus an heiress, a bandit, a set of famous quintuplets, etc., along with a few movie cards. The most popular cards are those of the entertainers, including Vivien Leigh, Walt Disney (key card of the set), Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Will Rogers and Shirley Temple, along with the cards of Joe Louis, Lawrence of Arabia, Sir Malcolm Campbell and the Dionne Quintuplets. Cards are generally all high-grade, with 30 being NM or better, 15 EX to EX-MT, only 5 lesser.A beautiful collection early British tobacco, covering sports, movies, automobilia and stars of the day.
