Early Boxing Folk Art of 1860's Match

Early Boxing Folk Art of 1860's Match

The original painting by artist George A. Hayes was painted circa 1870's and demonstrated a unique folk art rendering of a boxing match of that vintage. The reproduction is oil paint on board and measures approx. 18 x 29". The heavy paint use, referred to as impasto, gives the painting a unique texture. The images are classic representations of a boxing match from that era and the picture is highly detailed with a vibrant use of color. The painting is framed to an overall size of 21 ½ x 32 ½” and is a nice reproduction of a 19th century folk art piece. The original hangs in the national gallery in Washington, D.C.
