Early Ty Cobb And Honus Wagner Postcards

Early Ty Cobb And Honus Wagner Postcards

A penny for your thoughts! About a hundred years ago---1907 to be exact -- the penny postcard (a penny to buy; a penny to mail) was divided up on the non-illustrated side so a message could be written on one half along with the address on the other half. One of the first of these picture postcards was this extremely rare black and white card showing a swinging pose of one Tyrus R. Cobb (soon to be Ty) published by A.C. Dietsche of Detroit. Printed on the card, right fielder Cobb was described as “one of the most sensational players the game has ever had.” This NRMT postcard is crease-free; there are a few smudges on the address/message side. Not to be outdone, in 1908 the American League Publishing Co of Cleveland produced this John H. Wagner (soon to be Honus) postcard with a swinging pose of Wagner along with a close-up portrait shot of the Pittsburgh (spelled Pittsburg on the card) shortstop to the right. There is a folding crease on the left side of the NRMT black & white card. Talk about a special delivery--you definitely won’t want to miss out on these two historically scarce postcards!
