Early Views of Detroit Michigan Photographs (44)

This vintage wire photo lot documents Detroit's coming of age as the automotive and industrial capital of the world. Dating from 1926 to 1966 the photos carry stories about the growth of the city, the rise of the automotive industry and its inevitable growing pains. Beautiful images from the late 1920's show an artists rendering of Book Tower, then to be the tallest building in the world and the structural beauty of the Ambassador bridge. Also, many early views of the fascinating architecture, industrial technology & labor disputes of auto makers Ford, GM and Packard. Finally, city life in general, is wonderfully captured in these images of Detroit. Also notable, one Pre-WWII era reports show a German swastika flag among many hanging over the Masonic temple for the International Rotary convention in 1934 and another tells of Hitler's Third Reich ordering German- Americans back for military duty in 1939. Sized from 5.5 x 7" to 8x11", the wire photos have either front captions or caption sheets. All are at least VG with many NM/MT.
