Ebbets Field Stadium Plaque Commemorating Charles H. Ebbets with Photographic Proof! (ex-Barry Halper Collection)

Note: Please see recently uploaded photographs of plaque on the outside Ebbets Field prior to Game 1 of the 1920 World Series and a dedication ceremony to John L. Smith in 1950.

Large bronze plaque originating from Ebbets Field. Fittingly, this piece, which was once attached to a wall at the stadium, commemorates the birth date of long-time Brooklyn Dodgers owner Charles H. Ebbets, with both his name and the year "1883" featured in relief on the face of the plaque. This is one of the most significant surviving relics from one of baseball's most venerable Major League stadiums. It also comes with the special provenance of having once resided in the legendary Barry Halper Collection. In 1999 it appeared as Lot 2382 in the famed Sotheby's sale of Halper's collection (the original Sotheby's lot sticker and inventory label remain affixed to the piece in the lower left corner). The plaque (36x14"), which weighs over 75 pounds, displays heavy wear commensurate with its age and former use, including an area of white paint, abrasions, and moderate-to-heavy oxidation in the lower left corner, as well as scratches. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge (it will have to be crated and shipped by freight).
