Eddie Rickenbacker Signed Display from Louis Huston Collection
This display is an elegant, ornate gold gilted frame against a burgundy matte, which has multiple signatures of WWI ace Eddie Rickenbacker. A total of four signatures in black fountain pen are included with each signature rating a 10/10. The display includes an autographed letter, a signed 4x6.5" photo, and four 6-cents airmail stamps each. Two signed "Capt Eddie Rickenbacker." Eddie was an American fighter ace in World War I, and a Medal of Honor recipient. A race car driver and automotive designer, a government consultant in military matters and a pioneer in air transportation, particularly as the longtime head of Eastern Air Lines, it is in this capacity that he writes the letter, as it is on Eastern Air Lines company letterhead dated 1938. This is interesting as he bought Eastern from General Motors in 1938. In the letter, he discusses Louis Huston's illness as well as providing "the stamps autographed as well as a recent photograph of myself." Also discussed is early aviation pioneer Dick Merrill, the first air mail pilot, who flew the first round-trip transatlantic flight in 1936 and would go on to be Eastern Air Lines' most experienced pilot. All autographs are bold and striking and are signed as "Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker." Overall condition is EX+ and measures 16.5x25.5x1.5".
