Elizabeth Taylor Movie Dress Worn in Cleopatra (1963)

Elizabeth Taylor Movie Dress Worn in Cleopatra (1963)

The 1963 epic film, Cleopatra, was (and still is) one of the costliest films ever made. After going 40 million dollars over budget, the films notoriety came not from its content, but from the scandalous affair between stars Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. The part of that fortune spent on costuming paid off- it garnered the film an Oscar for Best Costume Design that year. Here is one of the gorgeous designs made for and worn by Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra. This sleeveless, empire waist, floor length gown is made of olive green silk and was custom made by Giuseppe Peruzzi of Casa d Arte Firenze. The costumer's tag is sewn inside the empire waist. Along the inside of the zipper is a tag with "Elisabeth Taylor" hand written in blue ball point. There is very light fading of the silk on the front of the bodice, but the dress remains a stunner and in NM/MT condition.
