Exceptional Ty Cobb Photo Signed by Louis Van Oeyen with Verso Letter To Ty Cobb
This brilliant shot by the esteemed Louis Van Oeyen features a lengthy letter on the reverse written to the "Georgia Peach," meaning this belonged to the Hall of Famer at one time. It reads: "Friend 'Ty' This letter shows you in the act of batting and the expression on your face is great. I am going to make you a larger one and will have it for you when you come to Cleveland on the 24th. Your friend, Van." He has added "snapshot photo taken at Cleveland, Ohio July 4, 1908 morning game." He also signed it on the front in ink which is highly unusual for Van Oeyen. This was likely sent by Cobb as requested for use in publishing in 1952. Shows some publishing marks and minor wear. Cobb set 90 records over his career, and still holds the all-time marks with 11 batting titles and .366 lifetime batting average. This remains the absolute best Ty Cobb photo we have ever seen. The photo measures 5"x7".
