Extremely Rare 2004 Detroit Pistons NBA Championship Player Ring Presented to Mike James

Extremely Rare 2004 Detroit Pistons NBA Championship Player Ring Presented to Mike James

Exceedingly rare Detroit Pistons 2004 NBA World Championship ring issued to reserve guard Mike James. To the best of our knowledge this is the first 2004 Detroit Pistons World Championship player's ring to appear at public auction and it comes with the special provenance of having just recently been obtained directly from James. The impressive design features a depiction of the Larry O'Brien trophy on the front, with "Pistons" lettered across it. A large diamond represents the basketball above the trophy, while 114 additional small diamonds adorn the front. The lettering along the top and bottom of the bezel reads, respectively, "2004 World" and "Champions." One shank bears the recipient's name, "James," below which is lettered "The Right Way." Also included are a basketball surrounded by a floral design and James' uniform number, "7." The opposite shank features the NBA logo and is lettered "Detroit - Going to Work - Pistons 4 Lakers 1." Engraved on the interior band is "James 020" and "Intergold 14K." Approximate Size: 11. Weight: 94 grams.Mike James began the 2003-2004 NBA season as a member of the Boston Celtics, but he was traded to the Pistons on February 19th as part of a three-team swap involving the Celtics, Pistons, and Hawks. That was good fortune for both James and the Pistons. In Detroit, James became a valuable reserve, especially when teamed together with fellow guard Lindsey Hunter. The two were known for their aggressive defensive play and were nicknamed the "Pit Bulls" by Rasheed Wallace. James averaged 6.3 points per game with the Pistons down the stretch to help lead them to a 54-28 record and second-place finish in the Central Division. During the club's championship run, James appeared in all but one of the team's postseason games, including all five NBA Finals games in the victory over the Lakers.
