Fabulous 19th Century Boxing Bronze by Louis Moreau
This is a bronze bare knuckle boxer by French artist Louis Auguste Moreau. The bronze is signed on the base and is mounted on a wooden base. Louis Auguste Moreau was born in Dijon in 1855, he studied with his father and also under Aime Millet, Augustin Drumont and Jean Thomas. Moreau's style was realistic and graceful, revealing his relation to the other members of the Moreau dynasty. This bare knuckle boxer in fight pose is signed by Louis Moreau on the base. The wooden base has some discoloration, the bronze itself has several mild rubs, and there is a crack on the left bicep, but this is completely intact. A magnificent image standing 19" high, this stands as a seldom seen boxing work by this noted artist.
