First Ever 1938 NIT Championship Watch Presented to Howard Black

First Ever 1938 NIT Championship Watch Presented to Howard Black

Bulova 10k gold filled watch was presented to 1938 National Invitational Tournament champion Howard G. Black of Temple University. From the first ever year for the NIT championship, Temple soundly defeated Colorado 60-36. Howard Black, a member of the Temple team. Back of the case is attractively engraved, "National Basketball Tournament, 1938, First Place". Stamped "B-10k Gold Filled" with leather band the lot also comes with his Temple lapel pin. Interestingly, this was found in an estate sale in Horsham, Pennsylvania which is a few hours away from Temple University. Near the watch and pin was a box addressed to "Mrs. H.G. Black" in Horsham, PA and the address on the box is the address of the house from the estate sale. Well it made its way there. Originally, the NIT tournament was far and away more popular and important than the NCAA.
