First Ever Ball In First Ever Game at Cleveland Stadium
Two weeks before the Cleveland Indians played their first game at the new Cleveland Stadium (later named Municipal Stadium), two shriner semi-pro teams locked horns in the first baseball game at the expansive ballpark that seated over 70,000 fans in its heyday. This official American League baseball with red-and-blue stitching features some faded writing, but here's some of what's legible: "First Ball in First Ball Game - Cleveland Stadium - Al Koran Shrine vs. Al Sirat Grotto - July 15, 1931." There is some foxing on the ball, which adds character. This artifact was housed for years in the Cleveland Indians Museum at the old ballpark, which was demolished in 1996 to make room for the Browns' FirstEnergy Center.
