First Printing 1966 Hells Angels Poster by Gut w/Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin & Ken Kesey (CGC Graded 9.4 NM)

First Printing 1966 Hells Angels Poster by Gut w/Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin & Ken Kesey (CGC Graded 9.4 NM)

Highest graded specimen of this important 14.125x 20.5" rock poster bringing together multiple components of 1960s San Francisco hippie counter culture. On the surface this appears to be any "normal" Hells Angels party poster from former Sokol Hall in San Francisco on November 12, 1966. It is in fact SO much more. Headliners Big Brother & The Holding Company is in their final incarnation starring groundbreaking queen of rock Janis Joplin on vocals. Underbill are the Merry Pranksters led by LSD revolutionary who took Jack Kerouac's "On The Road" quite literally (by bus) ultimately getting off (not literally) to write a novel by the name of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The artwork is magnificent! Head Dead & Hells Angels artist "GUT" channels the back of a verboten Hells Angels" jacket complete with facsimile stitching. Apparently, the Grateful Dead showed up to jam in this renaissance show and to complete this psychedelic tour-de-force. Obviously, a first printing based on the markings (or lack of) and condition is as good as you can get. Note: Thanks to poster diva Pete Howard for special insight on this piece.
