Frank Robinson Puerto Rican Winter League Jersey
Being the only man to win the MVP in both leagues, hitting 586 homers and winning championships with the Orioles wasn’t enough for Frank Robinson, who even while he was playing saw a future as a manager (that continues to this day). Toward that end, when Earl Weaver gave up managing the Santurce Cangrejeros of the Puerto Rican Winter League, Santurce owner Hiram Cuevas agreed to let Robinson take over, and from 1968 to 1975 he guided the team to league titles in ‘70 and ‘72. In his first year as manager, Santurce won 49 of 60 games, fueled by the likes of George Scott, Leo Cardenas and Jim Palmer. Robinson’s history-drenched Santurce jersey that he wore during that span reads “Cangrejeros” (Sand Crabbers) across the chest and “Robinson” and “20” on the verso in royal blue. Simple, but it says it all -- as does the HOFer’s magical signature on the left front tail in blue marker, a beauty grading 9/10. “Wilson [size] 42” tag in collar. Moderate use with light sweat staining around the back of the neck.
