Gaylord Perry Career Home Run Balls Number 1 (Moon Day) and Number 2
Giants coach Alvin Dark once joked of Gaylord Perry's poor hitting that "they'll put a man on the moon before he hits a home run." And his prediction came true! On July 20, 1969, just hours after the first lunar landing, Perry blasted this official National League (Giles) baseball for his first ML home run. And almost a year to the day later, he went yard again. Those two homer balls can now be yours. #1 shows nice use and is fully labeled in Perry's hand: "Dodgers 3, Giants 7, 7/20/69 Home Run, Moon Day." #2 is an official National League (Feeney) baseball that shows use and is labeled by Perry: "Home Run #2, 7/18/70." Admittedly, he wasn't one of the best hitting pitchers, compiling a .131 lifetime batting average. But Perry did manage to knock six balls out of the park over his 22-year career.
