Gene Tunney Personally Owned and Worn American Legion Cap

A different type of headgear worn by boxing champion Gene Tunney is up for grabs in this New York American Legion cap. Nicely preserved black felt hat has "Past Commander, theodore Roosevelt Jr., 1755" embroidered in yellow along with the American Legion logo, leather band, and "Gene Tunney" handwritten inside in black marker. Before winning titles at the Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight classes, he earned his nickname as "The Fighting Marine" by enlisting in the Corps during World War I in 1919.
