General Ulysses S. Grant Civil War "Signed" Carte de Visite

General Ulysses S. Grant Civil War "Signed" Carte de Visite

A classic of the era, this 1860s Civil War carte de visite is of Ulysses S. Grant. Though he did not include a signature, a handwritten note on the back inquires, "How are you, Mr. Marvin, for auto album." This was possibly sent to Matthew Marvin, Grant's lawyer and close friend. Photo on front features Grant in uniform with the title, "Lieut Gen U.S Grant." Grant was promoted to lieutenant general in 1864. There are a few marks on front with minor paper loss to top right corner, back has three spots but ink is bold and clean. Condition may be from Mr. Marvin removing this CdV from his autograph album. Measures 2.5x4".
