George Eyston Race Worn Gloves and Canvas Helmet Signed to His Public Relations Rep - Land Speed Record Pioneer
George Eyston is best remembered as the driver who broke the land speed record three times between 1937 and 1939. This signed hat and gloves belonged to Eyston and show tremendous use. Hat is inscribed in black fine tip marker, "Hat I used, To Ted with my very best wishes, George Eyston, 1935." Both gloves are signed and inscribed "To Ted Stern, Nov 19, George Eyston." Despite a smudge or two, the inscriptions remain clearly legible. On November 19, 1937, George Eyston broke the land speed record for the first time but we cannot confirm that these gloves were used during that event. Lot also comes with a 1939 Western Union telegram from Eyston referencing the New York World's Fair, and three George Eyston books.
