Gil Hodges' 1956 Tour of Japan Robe

Gil Hodges' 1956 Tour of Japan Robe

In 1956, a year removed from their only World Series championship in Brooklyn, the Dodgers embarked on a goodwill tour of Japan. One of the spoils from the trip was this kimono presented to star first baseman Gil Hodges. There is an enclosed photo of Hodges wearing the robe and an LOA from Hodges' wife, Joan. The robe is in NRMT condition. Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley was a primary mover in making the trip a reality, hoping to further improve diplomatic relations between the two former enemy nations.
