Interesting Van Lingle Mungo ephemera for a pitcher famous for a song entitled simply "Van Lingo Mungo," by Dave Frishberg. Van Mungo was a pretty good pitcher for the Brooklyn Robins, and then with Brooklyn when their name became Dodgers again. Mungo had a lifetime record of 120-115 with bad teams. When Frishberg wrote a song composed entirely of baseball player names from the 1940s, the song became a popular baseball standard, and Van Lingle Mungo's mellifluous name led the way.
