Grover Cleveland Alexander 1928 World Series Photo by Charles Conlon (PSA/DNA)

Grover Cleveland Alexander 1928 World Series Photo by Charles Conlon (PSA/DNA)

This vintage 3.5x4.5" black and white Type 1 photo of Grover Cleveland Alexander includes legendary photographer Charles Conlon's handwriting on the verso. Dated to the 1920s and depicted in a Cardinals uniform, Alexander became part of baseball folklore for his work in the 1926 World Series. After pitching complete-game victories over the New York Yankees in Game 2 and then Game 6, according to a teammate, the right-hander over-imbibed in celebration. He was still feeling the effects when he was called into Game 7 the next day, striking out Tony Lazzeri with two out and the bases loaded and working two more frames to help St. Louis secure the victory. Comes with PSA LOA.
