Gumbo The Robot Rare Coin Operated Machine

Gumbo The Robot Rare Coin Operated Machine

One of the most interesting coin-operated machines we have ever seen or offered. Known as, “Gumbo The Robot Dispenser.” This nearly five-foot tall figural robot is a dream to behold. Made of polished steel it dates circa 1960 and is the perfect style of the era. In futuristic silver gray he sports orange light-up eyes and mouth, geometric arms with closed C-shaped hands, and a cunning clear chest panel revealing gumball storage (with coin-operated dispenser beneath). Made in Italy this cherished “soul” is desired by both coin-op and robot collectors (see page #265 of the acclaimed and pioneering book Robots by Pierre Boogaerts. The only specimen to be sold publicly that we know of was the one sold in the famed robot collection “The Davidson Collection” at Christies New York (1989). It brought $6,000.
