Harlem As Seen by Hirschfeld (1941)

Harlem As Seen by Hirschfeld (1941)

For over seventy years, Al Hirschfeld provided not only a record of American entertainment, but one delineated by his superb talent. During the early 1940s, his focus carried him away from the theater district where so many of his subjects had strolled. He took a trip up Broadway to bustling Harlem. It was there he would find a renewed passion and inspiration that would fuel his mind and his pen. In 24 brilliantly colored lithographic illustrations Hirschfeld has perfectly captured the sights, sounds and the people of this magical place. The fashion, the music, and the essence that made Harlem the cultural mecca it was is here in this luxurious volume. Measuring 18x14” this white cloth covered book owns an appearance as stylish as the subjects themselves. A first edition, this is a limited edition numbered 669/1000 by Hyperion Press. Overall EX with NRMT tipped in lithographs inside. One of the finest art books ever created.
