Harvard Crimson's First Football Coach Lucius Littauer Signed & Personally Owned Algebra Book
This interesting piece is the book, "Elements of Algebra," owned and signed by Lucius Littauer, who was the first coach for the Harvard Crimson football team in 1881. Littauer graduated from Harvard in 1878 at the age of 19, and he coached Harvard's first-ever football team three years later at the age of 22. The first page is signed and handwritten: "Lucius Littauer, 578 Madison Ave, N.Y.C, N.Y," and it also has an "L.N. Littauer" stamp twice. The book was first published in 1871 and the first page with Lucius's signature has been detached, the binding is very loose and fragile (cover detached), but pages are intact with light wear on edges and some creasing on corners. Comes with 1878 C.W Patch cabinet photo of Littauer. Our research to date has been unable to find another one of his signatures ever offered, thus this may be the only one still in existence.
