Heisman Trophy Winner Glenn Davis Army Warm Up Jacket
Glenn Davis, nicknamed "Mr. Outside", was one of the most feared offensive weapons of the first half of the 20th Century and heart of the Army team that went 27-0-1 between '44-46. Winner of the Heisman Trophy in 1946 and among the finalists in 1944 and 1945, he teamed with Doc Blanchard to form West Point's devastating pair of runners best remembered as "The Touchdown Twins." Combined they set a then-record 97 career touchdowns by a pair of teammates, a record that wasn't broken until just last year by Reggie Bush and LenDale White. Davis himself was personally responsible for 59 of those scores, as he still holds the record for most yards averaged per carry in a season, with 11.5 yards in 1945. Voted to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1961 shortly after his promising professional career with the Rams was cut short by a knee injury. Offered is the black wool warm-up jacket, circa 1944, worn by Glenn during his pre-game and practice routine. The front bears grey on gold "West Point" felt lettering and the back is sewn with his military identification number "396" in white. Inside the collar is tagging from "Alex Taylor & Co. [size] Large." This piece has been magnificently preserved and comes with a letter of authenticity from Glenn's son, Ralph, along with a photo of Davis wearing the jacket.
