Huge Collection of Original George Burke Negatives (6,800+)

Huge Collection of Original George Burke Negatives (6,800+)

Simply an incredible archive of photographic negatives, the strength of which is most impressive, both in quantity and quality. These originate from one of the true geniuses of 20th century baseball photography, George Burke, whose style is more along the lines of Hollywood glamor icons such as George Hurrell and Clarence Sinclair Bull. Burke's back-lighting, invasive composition and matte-finished portraits brought a style and flair that has not been seen in sports photography before or since. His images rank right up there with those of Charles Conlon and Louis Van Oeyen. The vast majority (95%) of these are original, first-generation negatives and measure 5" x 7". The other five-percent are copy negatives or a smaller size. The overall condition is Excellent and they will make lovely prints if so desired. Just a sampling of some of the names included: Altrock, Appling, Averill, Bishop, Bush, Casey, Conlan, Cramer, Cronin, Cuyler, D. Dean, Durocher, Dykes, Faber, R. Ferrell, Frisch, Gehringer, Greenberg, Grove, Hack, Hafey, Haines, Hartnett, Slaughter, W. Johnson, Judge. Klein, Lopez, Lyons, Manush, McKechnie, Medwick, Ott, Pennock, Ruth, Shotten, Traynor, Vaughan, Walters and many, many, more. A complete list of players and quantities is available upon request.
