Hugh Casey Single Signed Baseball
Casey led the NL in saves twice. He was also a heavy drinker who was friends with Ernest Hemingway. Like his buddy Hemingway, he took his own life in 1951, at the age of 37, allegedly despondent over the breakup of his marriage. Because of this tragedy, his is a very tough signature to find. This is the only single signed Casey we have ever handled. Sweet spot signature is 5/10 blue ink. This ball was signed sometime in the 1940's. Casey was on the mound in the 1941 World Series when Mickey Owen dropped his third strike pitch to Tommy Henrich. Official National League (Frick) ball is evenly toned from shellac (EX).
