Important 1951 World Series Roy Campanella "Phantom" GAME USED Bat

Important 1951 World Series Roy Campanella "Phantom" GAME USED Bat

Historically important bat was prematurely made for use by Roy Campanella for use in the 1951 World Series, but was not to be. Bobby Thomson and the New York Giants saw to that. However this Hillerich & Bradsby G80 bat was carried over to the next regular season (1952) where Campy again had one of his typically excellent All-Star seasons. H&B obviously did not want to "waste" a purely healthy bat. The "1951 World Series" engraving was over-branded with a series of X's and letters to blot out the stain of history. From the 1951 labeling period, it boasts the name "CAMPANELLA" and "BROOKLYN DODGERS" emblazoned upon the barrel. Exhibits HEAVY USE with a professionally repaired handle crack, ball marks and stitch impressions on the right, left and back barrel, green and red bat rack streaks, cleat marks, the shadow of a spiral patterned tape repair on the handle and the model number G80 stamped into the knob. Authenticated and graded by PSA/DNA GU 8. The greatest irony of all is that the New York Giants should never have been there in the first place. The Dodgers, holding a commanding lead, were caught stealing signals by Leo Durocher and his crew and then shocked by the never forgotten shot heard 'round Brooklyn.
