irca 1970 Vintage Signed Joe Namath Wire Photo
Joe Namath was a man for his time - a gunslinger who loved to throw long. The Jan.12, 1969 AFL-NFL Championship Game between the New York Jets and the Baltimore Colts was actually the first NFL-AFL Championship Game to be officially called a Super Bowl. Namath, at the Miami Touchdown Club three days before the game at Miami's Orange Bowl, actually "guaranteed" a victory for the Jets, despite the team's 18-point underdog status. Namath was right. Joe hit on 17 of 28 passes for 206 yards, and no passing or rushing touchdowns, yet his masterful play led him to receive the game's MVP Award after the Jets beat the Baltimore Colts 16-7 for the first-ever AFL victory. In this 8x10" black and white wire photo, Namath poses with a man, most likely "Charlie," and later inscribes and signs the photo: "Charlie, The best of health to you and your family. Good luck in the season to come. I hope you have all victory. Joe N." On the back of the photo is written: "Dan Farrell - The News." The signed photo adds a fine touch from an electrifying player who engineered one of the greatest upsets of all time.
