Jack Dempsey Original Painting by Ken Stowell
Nice action image of a young Jack Dempsey, World Heavyweight Champ from 1919-1926, in fighting mode in ring. At Dempsey's feet, the painting has an image of an unfurled banner stating "Jack Dempsey." Interesting touch is the three notable boxing personages depicted seated at ringside behind Dempsey and numbered on painting: #1, His Manager - Jack Kerns, just to Dempsey's right; #2, directly behind Dempsey, his trainer - Trigger Holt; #3, just to Dempsey's left, Ex-Heavyweight Champ Jim Corbett (28.5x40.5"). Painting was likely done at some point before Dempsey fired Kerns during his three-year layoff as Heavyweight Champ before losing his title to Gene Tunney in 1926. Painting (Framed at 28.5x40.5") has some scratches, a less than 1" square repair (paint removed), some wrinkles and chipping.
